In this video I put the XLaserLabs Pro X1 700W handheld fiber laser through a full real‑world test — welding, cutting, and cleaning a range of metals. I go through the setup, wire feeder, nozzles, focus adjustment, safety features, and the touchscreen controls before putting it to work on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.
What’s covered in this video:
• Overview and setup of the Pro X1 • Wire feeder installation and nozzle options
• How the focusing tube and lenses work
• Welding modes, swing settings, and wire feed control
• Safety interlocks and gas setup
• Welding 3 mm mild steel (T‑joint, lap joint, 2 mm test)
• Dye penetrant testing, acid etch tests, and fracture tests
• Cleaning mode on rusty steel
• Cutting stainless, aluminium, and mild steel
• Protective lens inspection and cleaning
• Aluminium welding tests, etch results, and pulse wire‑feed patterns
• A small fabrication project: file tool holder
• Final thoughts after extended use
My conclusions:
• Excellent weld quality up to 3 mm (1/8”)
• Small bead but deep penetration
• 700W starts to struggle on thicker material
• Very little cleanup — almost no grinding
• Laser safety is critical: invisible beam, long travel, reflections
• Complements MIG/TIG rather than replacing them
• Cutting and cleaning modes are genuinely useful
• Intuitive interface and easy setup
• Current price: around $3,800 USD
If you’re into fabrication, welding, CNC, or workshop tools, this machine opens up a lot of possibilities.
