Building the Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 V2 CNC Router:
Today, we’re assembling the Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 V2 CNC router. Let’s break down the steps, starting with the XY axis base module.
Step 1: Aligning Rollers
Commence by aligning the rollers on both sides of the base. Measure from the back of the rollers to the frame on each side and compare the two measurements. Adjust the rollers with a hex driver tool until they are perfectly aligned.
Step 2: Mounting X Axis Gantry
Secure the X-axis gantry using M5 14mm screws from the hardware pack. Slot the gantry onto the roller assemblies and secure it in place with the provided M5 screws.
Step 3: Installing Z Axis Assembly
Install the Z-axis assembly with M5 16mm screws, spring washers, and flat washers. Mount it onto the X-axis roller using the access holes in the backplate.
Step 4: Coupler Installation
Attach the coupler onto the X-axis ballscrew shaft. Insert the X-axis stepper motor shaft into the coupler and secure it with M4 12mm screws. Tighten the coupler screws using a hex driver while turning the ballscrew.
Step 5: Drag Chain Brackets
Install drag chain brackets. Attach X-axis Bracket A with M5 12mm screws and X-axis Bracket B to the back of the Z-axis assembly with M4 6mm screws. For the Y-axis, attach Y-axis Bracket B to the left-hand roller assembly with M4 6mm screws and secure Y-axis Bracket A with M5 12mm screws.
Step 6: Cable Management
Arrange the drag chains and cables into position. Connect them to the brackets using M4 6mm screws for secure fastening.
Step 7: Wiring
Begin wiring by connecting components in the following order:
- X-axis limit switch
- Z-axis stepper motor
- Two Y-axis stepper motors
- Y-axis limit switch
- X-axis stepper motor
- Spindle motor (paying attention to the wire polarity)
- Z-axis limit switch
Step 8: Voltage Check
Ensure the AC supply voltage is correctly set on the switch located on the side of the control box.
Step 9: Connect to Control Box
Connect the cables to the control box, ensuring a secure fit.
Step 10: Final Connections
Complete the assembly by connecting:
- Power supply lead
- USB cable
- Height probe
Setting Up Software for the Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 V2 CNC
With the hardware assembly complete, it’s time to delve into the software setup for your Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 V2 CNC router. Follow these exact steps to ensure a seamless integration of the USB COM port driver and the Universal Gcode Sender (UGS) software.
Step 1: USB COM Port Driver Installation
- Extract the driver files from the USB stick into a new directory.
- Run
setup.exe
and choose the “Install” button. - To verify correct installation, open the Device Manager.
- Plug in the USB cable, and you should observe a “USB-SERIAL CH340” device under Ports (COM & LPT). Click on it to confirm its status.
Step 2: UGS Software Installation
- The USB stick provides two software options: Candle and UGS. Opt for UGS as it is the more advanced choice.
- Extract the UGS files.
- Navigate to the
bin
directory and runugsplatform64.exe
.
Step 3: UGS Configuration
- In UGS, select “grbl” from the firmware drop-down list.
- Update the COM port.
- Click the “Connect” button. UGS will display an alarm, indicating that the machine has not been homed.
Step 4: Homing the Machine
- To proceed, select the toolbox tab and click on the “Home Machine” button.
- Homing uses limit switches to find the home position or zero point for the machine axes.
Step 5: Jogging the Axes
- With the machine homed, you can now jog the axes using UGS.
- The feedrate can be set to the maximum of 5000 mm/min or 196 ipm.
Testing Your Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 V2 CNC Router
Now that your Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 V2 CNC router is assembled and the software is set up, it’s time to put it to the test using one of the example G-code files included on the USB stick:
Step 1: Install the V Bit
- Install a V bit into the spindle collet.
Step 2: Set Z-Axis Zero Point Using the Height Probe
- Use the height probe to set the Z-axis zero point.
- Measure the touch plate’s thickness.
- Position the touch plate beneath the V bit.
- Attach the crocodile clip securely.
Step 3: Enable Probe Module in UGS
- In UGS, if the probe module isn’t visible, enable it under “Window” > “Plugins.”
- In the Z axis probe window, enter the touch plate thickness.
- Click “Initiate Probe.” The probe operation will zero the V bit to the material surface.
Step 4: Jog to Starting Position
- Jog the machine to the desired starting position.
- Zero the Y-axis and the X-axis.
Step 5: Load G-code File
- Open a G-code file by clicking on “File,” then “Open.”
- Navigate to the “test code” directory on the USB stick. G-code files in this directory end with a .tap file extension.
Step 6: Run the G-code
- Once the G-code is loaded, run it by clicking the “Send” button.
